Gilberdyke Scouts hiking round South Cave

On 14 June 2010 Gilberdyke Scouts (joined by the older cubs) went on a planned hike round the footpaths near to South Cave

Katie Hall reports:

On Monday we met up at the scout hut and went up to Drewton Manor near South Cave. We walked (3 1/2 miles) in total. The route took us past the Diamond Cottage, past Drewton Wold, round to Austin’s Dale, and back down to Drewton Dale. With us we had a map, and a list of things to spot. This included types of bird, plants and trees. But two things that were not on the list were 3 red kytes and ALOT of cow muck. On the way up to Austin’s Stone, we had to go through a field of cows and calves, who were not happy about us being there, and we got some very angry looks. But the bull did not seem interested in us, and kept it’s distance. We only had one stop at the top of Drewton Wold, and we had some great views. Despite only having one stop, we managed to go the rest of the route and back down to Drewton Manor and complete the walk in just 1 hour and 20 minutes! We all had a great time, the walk was brilliant, and we managed to tick most things off our list.

Wanted……

Wanted…..reports written by the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts on their activities undertaken as part of the group for inclusion on this website.

I would be grateful if young people involved in the Gilberdyke Group could write short reports on the activities they have been undertaking for inclusion on the website.  There is no maximum or minimum length to the report, and it should be written by the young person themselves.  It would be great if a photo could be included of the activity.  If you would like to write a short report for submission please email it to me (peter@gilberdyke.net).  Thanks.
