That rings a bell!

That rings a bell.
The Cubs had a great night last thursday, 21 June, as they paid a visit to Newport Church. The weather was kind to us and calmed down enough to allow us to climb to the top of the Bell tower and climb out onto the roof, escorted by Mr.Brown, who also told us all about the bells themselves and how they were rung.
What a fantastic view we had up there!
Reverend Thornalley was on hand to give us an insight into the work of the vicar, plus information about the various parts of the church and its functions. This visit was intended to give the Cubs a better understanding of the work of local community figures and also the part played by institutions such as the Church and is a part of the Community Challenge badge.
We will be having further contact with other figures in the local community in a few weeks time.
Thanks go to Rev. Thornalley and Mr.Frank Brown for an enjoyable and informative evening.

Cubs strike silver in Diamond Jubilee year

Cubs strike silver in Jubilee year.

There were firsts all around this week at Cubs, as the Pack welcomed the newly appointed District Commissioner for the new district of Blacktoft Beacon, Linda Thelwell.

She had come to present various awards to members of the Pack, most notably the Chief Scout award, which is the highest that can be gained in each section.

There was a Bronze for Ewan Pollard, recently come up from Beavers, plus a total of five Silver Chief Scout awards for Cubs about to go up to Scouts.

In a first for the Pack, the five also received the coveted seventh Challenge Badge, Outdoor Plus.

This is the first group of Cubs that I have taken through to both Silver and all seven Challenge badges together. I am immensely proud of them all. They have been a fantastic, enthusiastic group and I hope they will continue to progress and enjoy themselves as Scouts”
